Revelation 17
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
What do we do after Christmas? Some of us may be busy taking down the Christmas tree, returning an unwanted gift that we received or resting from the busyness of all the holiday festivities. There is an old song by the legendary Canadian artist Celine Dion called, “Don’t Save It All for Christmas Day.” The premise of the song is about how people can get so busy in life that they miss out on showing love to their loved ones, except on Christmas day. The song recognizes the yearning that each person has for love and encourages the listeners to find a way, not just on Christmas day but every day, to give a bit of love away. Although this is not a Christian song, we could glean some biblical truth behind the lyrics.
Outside of Christmas Day, we should aim to share love with the people around us every day. But the love we share is not some superficial Hollywood type of love. The love that we, as Christians, have the privilege to share with others is an everlasting love—God’s love. The Apostle Paul tells us, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). No matter what comes our way, we can stand firm each day on the solid truth that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
While Christmas has come and gone, the good news of Jesus Christ is still relevant. The fact that He came as a baby, born in a lowly manger, to be the Saviour of the world, by dying on the cross, is an incredible message that we carry with us each day. May we make every opportunity that presents itself to show love and to share the gospel with others.
As Paul reminds us, “‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” (Romans 10:13-15). May we find courage through the Holy Spirit to share the love of God and the good news of Jesus Christ with someone today!
Dear God, although the hype of Christmas is over, the good news of Jesus Christ still lives on. I ask for You to give me the courage to share Your love with someone today. Thank You, Lord.
