Proverbs 30-31

2 Corinthians 11:1-15

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.”   —Psalm 19:1-2

Do we realize that there is a worship service going on in the cosmos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? David penned the words of Psalm 19, that the whole universe declares the glory of God. Psalm 19:3-4 tells us, “They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” While the heavens have no speech or words, their messages spread across the planet, proclaiming to the inhabitants of earth, “There is a God! He exists!”

David then points our attention to the sun in Psalm 19:4, “In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.” Take a moment and soak in the reality of what is happening in the cosmos and the intricate balance that exists to sustain our life on earth. God determined in creation that the heart of our solar system is the sun. The sun accounts for 99.86% of the mass of our solar system, and it would take 1.3 million earths to fill the sun. The surface temperature of the sun is about 6,000 degrees Celsius. When we stand outside on a sunny day, enjoying the sun’s rays beating upon us, do we realize that there are about 100 billion neutrinos passing through our body per second? Those neutrinos were on the surface of the sun about 8 minutes and 20 seconds earlier—that is how long it takes for the neutrinos to make the journey from the sun to the earth.

When we seek to understand all the complexity of our earth and how it is miraculously ordered to sustain life, it is dumbfounding. The deeper we dive into the sciences, physics and cosmology, and start to comprehend how our universe works, it is astonishing. When we study how all this came into existence, eventually, we have no rational explanation for any of it except to include God in the equation. Roger Penrose, a British mathematician and Nobel Prize winner, came up with a formula and he based his calculation on only one of the hundreds of parameters that needed to happen for the odds of creating the conditions to sustain life. Basically, what he discovered is that it is virtually impossible.

Science does not stand in opposition to God; it only confirms the reality of God. The heavens are constantly declaring to us the evidence of God. The next time we go outside and those 100 billion neutrinos are passing through our skin every second, know that the cosmos is shouting the glories of who God is to us while we enjoy its radiance.

Prayer: Lord Heavenly Father, the whole cosmos declares Your glory. When I find myself doubting whether You exist, all I need to do is just look at Your creation and know that there is a God. Praise You!
