Psalms 1-3 | Acts 17:1-15

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Sometimes, things happen in our life that we do not understand why, but Scripture reveals that God has a greater purpose that we do not understand. For example, in John 9, with the man born blind, Jesus’s disciples asked Jesus whose fault it was that caused the man’s condition. Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:3-5). Jesus was pointing His disciples to Himself as He—who is God in the flesh—was about to do what only God could do.

Just as God formed man from the dust of the ground in Genesis 2:7, Jesus did the very same thing in the life of the man born blind. John 9:6-7 tells us, “[Jesus] spat on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ‘Go,’ He told him, ‘wash in the Pool of Siloam’ (this word means ‘Sent’). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.” Throughout the Gospels, Jesus healed all kinds of blind people, often by speaking to them, but towards this particular blind man, he spat on the ground, made mud and then placed it on the man’s eyes—isn’t this an odd way to heal someone?

We must understand that everything that Jesus did was intentional. He was the manifestation of what God is like so how He healed the man was not arbitrary. Yet, if we are honest with ourselves, some of us try to dictate to God when He should do the miracle in our life and how it should come about. However, God’s activity may not happen according to our timing and show up in a way we want. Why? Because here is the truth: it is not about us.

God is God. He can do whatever He wants, not in a malicious manner but as a loving Father. If we truly hold in our hearts that He completely loves us and cares deeply for us, then we must believe that whatever God is doing in our life, He is doing it with a purpose. There are things in our life that we may be uncomfortable with or are afflicted by, but may we remember that our life is not about us and trust that there is a reason behind what God is doing because there is a work that only He can do in our life.

PRAYER

Dear God, I confess of the times when I told You what I want You to do. Thank You for the reminder that my life is not about me. I wholly trust and surrender my life into Your hands. Amen!
