Micah 4-5
Revelation 12

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

Every form of life has a governing force that enables it to function. For example, plant life is governed by seasons. Genesis 8:22 tells us, “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” A grain of wheat may lie dormant on the ground during the winter but when spring comes, it will germinate, grow roots and push up a stalk. Then, in the warmth of the summer, it will ripen and mature. In autumn, if the grain had not been reaped, it will harden and fall from the ear to the ground and lie dormant all winter until the warmth of the spring starts the process again.

Animal life, however, is governed by instinct. Proverbs 6:6-8 tells us, “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” It is amazing how ants know exactly what to do. Some work in the kitchen to feed the Queen ant and

others care for the babies. There are some that keep the temperature even by fanning out hot air and bringing in cool air. Others are hunters, out getting food and bringing it home for the community. Who taught them what to do? Did they go to ant school? No, it was instinct because that is how animal life is governed.

While human beings have instincts, we are not created to be governed by instinct. We were created to experience a higher and more meaningful plane; we were created to be governed by the presence of God in our lives who gives us purpose, direction and power. We were made to be the dwelling place of God’s spirit. Yet, because of sin, we lost His presence in our lives.

Now, what happens if plants lose their seasons? They wilt. What happens if animals lose their instinct? They would not know what to do. What happens if human beings lose God’s presence? We die, as Romans 3:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death....” But at the first Christmas the angels announced to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

Jesus came to restore what human beings lost. He came to restore God’s presence back into our lives. This is good news that should cause us to have great joy today!

Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for coming into this world to restore the presence of God back into human beings. What good news! What great joy! Praise You!
