Ruth 1-4

Luke 8:1-25

“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,  that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…”

—1 Corinthians 15:3-4

We live in an age called “Postmodernism,” which essentially sidesteps truth to appease the majority. Postmodernism promotes the belief that there are no absolute worldviews, no such thing as objective truth and that truth is subject to one’s interpretation. This only adds to a framework of skepticism and distrust, because truth is not found in consensus but in fact.

Judges 17:6 (ESV) states, “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes,” an attitude largely adopted by society today. Many people believe they can they decide for themselves what is right to think, say or do, but this ultimately results in confusion, destruction and anarchy. Without the conviction that there are principles true for all of us, we are left with a foundation based on opinions with one opinion no more valid than the next.

The world we live in is saturated with different ideals, philosophies and beliefs, which make it extremely difficult to discover truth.  As believers, we want the assurance that Christianity is not just another religion, but is the truth, and we receive this assurance by the fact that Christ was raised from the dead. On several occasions,  Jesus  explained to His disciples that
“...He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life” (Matthew 16:21).

Anyone can say they will die on Friday and be raised to life on Sunday, but who can actually pull this off? The disciples did not believe Jesus until He appeared to them in the house where they had been in hiding after His resurrection. Further to the opening verse, Paul tells us, “…that He appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, He appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:4-6). The assurance of our faith is grounded in the resurrection, which stamped God’s seal of truth on the ministry of Jesus.

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, all of Christianity would collapse. As Christians, we are not salespeople pitching a religion but convinced believers offering truth to a world desperately in need of it. We can speak confidently of our faith in Christ, assured of forgiveness and eternal life because God, having risen Christ from the dead, affirms the Gospel message. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life, all of which hold together because of His resurrection.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for truth in a world that has little room for it. Grant me boldness to proclaim Your Son’s resurrection so others may come to know the Truth. Thank You, God.
