Job 14-16
Acts 9:22-43

“‘Father, glorify Your name!’ Then a voice came from heaven, ‘I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.’”
—John 12:28

Are we living our lives in a way in which we are bringing God glory? After Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, He prayed, “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour?’ No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name!’” (John 12:27-28). Jesus knew the road ahead led to His crucifixion. Instead of asking the Father to rescue Him, He prayed, “Father, glorify Your name!” God responded, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again” (John 12:28). The Father was affirming that Jesus’s life was in fact bringing Him glory. Why? Because Jesus was doing what God called Him to do.
Returning to the opening question, are we living our lives in a way in which we are bringing God glory?
1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us, “…whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” The verse speaks to our heart posture and motive of what we do and whether it is done in a manner that brings glory to God.
This idea of living for the glory of God is about doing what He has called us to do and using what God has given us. More specifically, it is about stewarding, leveraging or using the gifts, skills and resources that God has given us for His kingdom. What has God placed in our hands? Where has He called us to? How are we using what God has placed in our hands and where He has placed us for the kingdom of God? He created and wired us all differently to do different things. God may call some of us into education, into trades, into healthcare, into the arts, into business or being a stay-at-home parent. Wherever He has called us, He did not call us into those places to build our own kingdom; He called us into those places to build His kingdom.
Some of the things that God has placed in our hands could be a job, our home or a passion that we have. Some of us may hold tightly to the thing that God has given us and when we come to the Lord in surrender, we pray, “God, You can use my life” but with closed hands we say, “But You can’t touch these things. You can’t use those things.” For whatever reason, we are not willing to fully surrender to God. May we have a heart posture that says, “God, whatever You have placed in my hands, wherever You placed me, I want to be used for Your kingdom, for Your glory.”
Almighty God, I come before You with open hands. Use me, Lord, for Your kingdom. May You be glorified in my life. In Your name I pray.
